Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 9, 2017. The atmosphere and setting reminded me of a couple of my favourite William Trevor novels (, I had such a strange reaction to this book: I loved this more than anything I have read in a long time, but when I started thinking about writing this review, I had the hardest time putting my finger on why. Yes, it was haunting and somewhat dark in it's mood, but it was also creepy. You also come to understand very early that stories hold quite different meanings for different listeners, and can be recast from many viewpoints. It's not a perfect book, but I loved it--stories with this kind of emotional heft, without melodrama, are hard to find.
